★ 取消了、泡汤了，本来还打算......这些英文怎么说？

★ Now不是现在吗，还能用来安慰别人？

Mom: Honey, can you sit down for a minute?

妈妈：亲爱的，你能坐会儿吗？

I have some good news and some bad news to share with you.

我有一些好消息和一些坏消息要告诉你。

技巧一：用good news和bad news开场，提前给宝宝预期，做好铺垫。

Child: Okay.

宝宝：好的。

What's the bad news?

坏消息是什么？

Mom: The bad news is that because of all the germs that are making people sick this year,

妈妈：坏消息是因为今年那些让人们生病的病菌，

we won't be able to have your friends come to the house for your birthday party.

咱们不能让你的朋友来家里参加你的生日派对了。

Child: None of them?

宝宝：一个都不行吗？

Mom: No, I'm afraid not.

妈妈：是的，恐怕不行。

技巧二：用I'm afraid等语气比较柔和的词汇。

Child: But that's notfair.

宝宝：但是这不公平。

We were going to dress up and play games and eat cake.

我们本来还打算扮装、玩游戏、吃蛋糕呢。

Mom: I know it's not fair.

妈妈：我知道不公平。

I wish I didn't have to cancel your party,

我也希望没有取消你的派对。

技巧三：认可宝宝的观点，并表明和宝宝的立场是一致的。

but we don't want people to get sick.

但是咱们不希望有人生病。

Child: What if we washour hands a lot and wear masks?

宝宝：如果我们勤洗手，而且戴口罩呢？

Mom: That wouldn't be enough, sweetie.

那样不够的，亲爱的。

Please don't cry.

别哭了。

技巧四：说don't cry时语气要温柔，加上please。

I haven't told you the good news yet.

我还没告诉你好消息呢。

Child: There isn't any good news.

宝宝：不会有好消息了。

My birthday is ruined.

我的生日都泡汤了。

Mom: Now, now, that's not true.

妈妈：好了，好了，不是这样的。

Now, now两个词连在一起，不是“现在”的意思，既可以是一种责骂，也可以是安慰，要看语境和语气。

You're still going to dress up and play games and eat cake with mommy and daddy.

你还是要和爸爸妈妈一起扮装、玩游戏、吃蛋糕。

技巧五：有补救方案才是最有效的安慰。

Child: Can we play music?

宝宝：咱们能放音乐吗？

Mom: Absolutely.

妈妈：当然。

No party is complete without music.

没有音乐的派对是不完整的。

Now go rinse off your face with some cool water.

现在去用凉水冲冲脸，

Child: Okay. I washed my face.

宝宝：好了。我洗完脸了。

I'm ready to have a good birthday now.

我已经准备好过一个愉快的生日了。

Mom: Good! Now look at this delicious cake I have for you.

妈妈：好的！现在看看我给你准备的这个美味蛋糕。

Dad is going to light the candles,

爸爸来点蜡烛，

then we're going to sing "Happy Birthday".

然后我们一起唱《生日歌》。

Are you ready?

你准备好了吗？

Happy birthday to you,

祝你生日快乐，

Happy birthday to you,

祝你生日快乐，

Child: Did you see that?

宝宝：你们看见了吗？

I blew out all the candles.

Mom: I did.

Child: The corner piece, please.

I love icing.

Mom: Me too.
